Ahhhhlll Done

One of Matthew's more recently learned phrases is "all done". When done with his food and it's time to get down we are told "ahhhhlll dun" or simply "dun". It may mean "down", but I think he's saying "done".

Problem is we hear it as soon as we latch the tray to the highchair. Immediately after taking a seat he's "ahhhlll dun". Oooof oooof ooooof he strains as he tries to remove the tray. No such luck. Then the tears flow, becuase - after all - he's "ahhhhlll dun". Then he eats anyway. It's quite a dramatic affair.

Now he really seems to be done. Except after we wipe the hands off and confirm that he really is indeed ahhhlll dun he often will snatch a last fistful of food and cram it in his mouth as he slides out of the chair.

"Ahhhlll dun" really means I want to eat and walk.

Bad Dad

I was giving the boy a bath last night. He likes to fill a cup with water and pour it on his belly. That's what he usually does. This time he immediately filled up a cup and poured it out of the tub and on me.

I made the boy cry because of my loud mouth for the first time last night. "No sir!!!" is what I yelled. Or screamed. Whatever word might fit best. He dropped the cup and looked at me a few seconds, then burst into tears. Wow. I felt bad. I gave him a hug and handed him the cup and after a few minutes he was back on his way.

He learned not to pour water out of the tub. I learned that I am going to screw up more times than I can count as a dad. Me punish him - yes. Me screaming - no.

I need to work on patience.

New Stuff

His new thing: Hops about like a frog. This is the most entertaining as he hops around to the sounds of the Wiggles. I never though I would hum "cold spaghetti...mashed banana..." but it gets in your head and refuses to leave at times.

New words: AaaUTT. Translation: ant
Everything is an ant. Spider, beetle, you name it, it's all an AuuUTT!

Or a "sssssssss". That's a snake to you lay folks. A stick is likely to be mistaken for a ssssssss.

Long Time

Wow. This blogging stuff is hard. It's been almost a year since I set this up and I haven't touched it since. I'm sorry too - as Matthew keeps learning and doing new things.

One not new thing: He still sucks on those blankeys until they are nasty, stinky messes.
